What to expect in a hypnotherapy session
Hypnotherapy is a gentle, supportive process focused on safety, clarity, and lasting change.
Beginning hypnotherapy can feel both hopeful and uncertain—especially if you are sensitive, introspective, or cautious about new healing experiences. This page is here to help you understand what a session with Shannon is like, so you can arrive feeling informed, supported, and at ease.
Hypnotherapy is a collaborative, gentle process. Nothing is done to you. You are an active participant throughout the session, always aware, present, and in control.
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
Your session begins with a brief conversation to explore what brings you in and what you would like support with. This is a space to share as much or as little as feels comfortable. There is no pressure to explain everything perfectly or relive difficult experiences.
Shannon listens carefully and helps clarify your intention for the session, ensuring the work unfolds at a pace that feels safe and respectful.
During Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy involves entering a relaxed, focused state—similar to the feeling of being deeply absorbed in a book or drifting just before sleep. In this state, the nervous system can settle, and the subconscious mind becomes more receptive to insight and change. You will hear Shannon’s voice guiding the process, but you remain aware of your surroundings and able to speak or adjust at any time. If something doesn’t feel right, it can be shifted immediately.
Your comfort and agency are always prioritized. Sessions are calm, grounded, and individualized.
There is no force, confrontation, or emotional overwhelm. There may be times when we will explore the more difficult experiences and this will only happen based on the clients full preparation and readiness after a period of time. There will never be any pressure or requirement to do so.
After the Session
Many people leave a session feeling calmer, clearer, or more grounded. Others notice subtle shifts that unfold over time—such as responding differently to stress, feeling less reactive, or gaining new perspective.Change through hypnotherapy can feel gentle and integrative. And at times, there can be emotional releases that will lead to feeling stronger and more grounded. Once the emotion clears clients report feeling more embodied, resilient and regulated.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
This varies from person to person. Some clients experience meaningful shifts in a single session, while others benefit from ongoing support. Shannon works collaboratively with you to determine the best package and period of time that will be the most supportive for your overall healing and intentions.
Is Hypnotherapy Safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a safe, well-established modality when practiced by a trained professional. You cannot be made to do or say anything against your will, and you will not lose control or consciousness.Shannon’s work is trauma-informed and grounded in nervous system regulation. She is highly attuned to her clients and will follow her clients lead with appropriate preparation and readiness.
